 Evangelism Committee - Meeting on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 4:30pm Minimize

Meetings held on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 4:30pm.

Annual Report for 2008:

The Evangelism Committee continues the work of "growing the body of Christ."

In that effort we have:

  • welcomed 59 new members into the family of Zion through our orientation program pairing  new members with sponsors, and providing those new members with a gist of fresh bread and homemade jam along with Zion information;
  • provided gift bags to welcome visitors when they worship with us;
  • continues outreach to our community through TV ads, and other print media;
  • revamped the Zion Wedding Handbook;
  • sent seasonal greeting cards to the homebound and to nursing home residents;
  • designed brochures and magnets promoting Zion;
  • arranged for the creation of our new pictorial directory;
  • offered training for home communion visitors.

We celebrate our growth and hope for more in the coming years, and extend an invitation to anyone who would like to join us in this important work!

We would like to recommend that visitation of the homebound and nursing home residents, along with the home communion ministry be addressed by a new Visitation Committee.

 Missions Committee - Meeting on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5:15pm Minimize

Meetings held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 5:15pm - except in the summer.

Annual Report for 2008...

Because of your generosity the Mission’s Committee was able to:

  • Pack Easter food baskets and give away toys to families whose children attend Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, and Roosevelt Elementary.
  • Help restock the community food pantries.
  • Donate money to Community Action and other organizations.
  • Give some help to families in need.
  • Bring a gift and visit families who have lost a loved one during the year.

This fall we started selling Fair Trade products through Equal Exchange Co-Op. This organization, which is associated with Lutheran World Relief, takes the “middleman” out of the selling process. This gives the farmers a fair price for their products. The coffees, teas, chocolate, sugar and snacks come from all over the world. The main producers are from third world countries, plus women and families with low incomes.

We sold many types and flavors of coffee.  We also sold tea, chocolate bars, pecans and hot chocolate during different times & activities through December.  We will continue to sell Fair Trade items at various times during 2009.  All of the products are high quality, flavorful and go for a good cause.  Part of the proceeds paid goes to the farmer and part goes to the Missions committee to help with local projects.

If you would like to join our committee, we meet the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 4:00pm. (The time is negotiable if this doesn’t work for you.)

Peace and Blessings to you,

The Mission’s Committee: Kathy Solberg, Teresa Rittel, Eunice Simbalenko, Howard Olson, Jackie Smith, Izzie Thompson
